Honor the past and heroes gone by with this beautiful re-creation of the famed 1906 issue US cavalry saber, carried by the cavalrymen (including the legendary Buffalo Soldiers) who won the last battles of the Indian Wars, chased down Pancho Villa and helped win World War 1. Crafted in honor of the US Cavalry Association and built to their exacting specifications, this piece of US military history has a 34 inch carbon steel blade and a contoured solid hardwood grip with twisted wire wrapping. The steel scabbard has an antique finish to match the rugged and beautiful hilt whose handsome guard provides great protection for the hand. Fully functional, the full tang saber features a unique double fuller that lightens the blade but also provides strength for slashing on horseback. This exquisite blade is a great addition to any collection! The tradition of the US cavalry dates as far back as the nation itself, with the initial mounted regiment in US service being a converted Connecticut militia unit in George Washingtons Continental Army. The US cavalry would play a fundamental role in the development of the nation with valuable service in the War of 1812 and the Mexican War before seeing its most vital service in the American Civil War and the Indian Wars where names like Stuart, Sheridan and Custer became legendary in the annals of military history. Even as it transitioned into a mechanized mobile force, the spirit forged on horseback was instrumental- before he was a tank commander George S Patton was a horse soldier! The legacy and tradition of the US Cavalry is a treasured commodity and in that spirit we are proud to present this majestic sword forged specifically to honor that legacy and tradition to you!
