Fenrir (pronounced “FEN-rir;” Old Norse Fenrir, “He Who Dwells in the Marshes”[1]) is the most infamous of the many wolves in Norse mythology. Fenrir is the son of Loki and the giantess, Angrboda, and brother to Hel, the goddess of the underworld. The Fenrir wolf was at first kept peacefully in Asgard but when the gods realized how big Fenrir was growing on a daily basis they decided to chain up in order to protect themselves, but he broke every chain. Viking Wolf Legend has it that Fenrir will escape at Ragnarok and kill Odin after which Odin’s son, Vidar, will kill Fenrir. This contrasting depiction of the wolf in Norse mythology brings about a conflicted perception of this majestic creature. But what is undeniable is that the wolf is a symbol of power, intelligence, wisdom, and ferocious tenacity. The hand polished drinking horn is stunning.
