This fully functional historical reproduction is crafted after a sword design which was prominent in medieval Europe in the 16th Century and is representative of an Oakeshott Type XXa with its narrow blade and multiple fullers. Two of the fullers run parallel to each other near the hilt while a third sits alone in the middle third of the blade. With an overall length of 42 inches, the sword is long but nevertheless light enough to permit quick, shearing strikes with the finely constructed 33.5 inch blade. The handle features a lightweight steel guard and pommel along with a leather wrapped hilt that offers a comfortable grip, the sword feels great in the hand. A great sword to add to any collection, it includes a FREE leather sheath with its own leather belt measuring approximately 50 inches around. A hand and a half- or bastard- sword is a straight-bladed sword well known for being lightweight, yet powerful and able to pry open plate armor. Prized for their versatility, hand and a half swords can be equally effective wielded either with two hands or with one hand if a warrior needed to fight using a shield. The bastard name derived from the fact that the sword styles exact origin was of an unknown nature. *Please note that due to the carbon steel construction of this handmade sword, there may be slight imperfections including some rusting on this item. This rust is easily removable and should not deter from the long term value of this item. Further rusting can be avoided by proper maintenance of the blade.
