This is one of the most famous shields of the middle ages. This style shield was carried by the crusades lead by Richard the Lion Heart. This shield is a detailed replica of the shields used by Richard the Lion Heart with detail paid to the lion coat of arms on the front and with silver and gold in the background. These three lions represent England. The edge on this detailed shield is fashioned with polish brass aluminum riveted down to the silver shield. Along the rim is a gold flower design, making this shield a natural elegance. It comes complete with a steel hanging chain with an adjustable sword display mount. While Richard Plantagenet is revered as one of the great warrior kings of England, he is perhaps best known as "the absent king." This is due to the facts that during his reign from 1189-1199, he spent a total of six months in England. Aside this, Richard was well known for his bravery which earned him the nickname "The Lion Heart". A name that has reached epic and mythological proportions, best seen in literary works such as Robin Hood and Sir Walter Scott's novel Ivanhoe.
