HISTORY:

The U.S. 1918 WWI trench knife, also known as the Mark 1 trench knife, was one of two official fighting knives used by American forces in World War I. The knife was designed by American Expeditionary Force (AEF) officers and incorporated features from knives already in use on the Western Front. The Mark 1 was intended to replace earlier models, such as the Model 1917 and Model 1918, which the U.S. military found to be lacking in functionality. The Mark 1 featured a 6.75 in (17.1 cm) double-edged dagger blade, a bronze handle with finger grips, and a heavy knuckle-duster grip. The blade was blued with a black oxide finish, and the handle was chemically blackened with cast spikes on the knuckles. The knife also came with a metal scabbard that had integral belt loops.
